About The Artist |
David E. Matuszek is a lifelong Holyoke, MA resident who is a graduate of Holyoke Community College and holds a B.A. in History from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has been interested in photography since his parents gave him an old Kodak Instamatic when he was six. While working through college as a Tool and Die Maker he found that his occupation, interest in history and love of photography could come together as one and began to explore the rich Manufacturing History of the Connecticut River Valley. Always on the lookout for both operating and abandon industry he has photographed such subjects as waterpower on the canals of Holyoke, paper being made on 150 year old machinery, nineteenth century mill buildings and derelict machinery. David works in a mixture of film formats but feels most at home using large format negatives because they provide the greatest image detail. David has had several exhibits at the Holyoke Public Library History Room (2002, 2004, and 2005) as well as submissions to several shows at the Valley Photo Center in Springfield. |
